Algires - Algeria's wheat import volumes were steady at 3.171 million tonnes in the first six months of this year versus a year ago but cost 14.5 percent more, official figures showed on Tuesday.

Soft wheat purchases rose 2.24 percent to 2.411 million tonnes from 2.358 million in the same period last year, according to customs data.
The data also showed durum wheat imports fell 7.4 percent to 752,720 tonnes from 813,107 tonnes.
The overall value of durum and soft wheat imports rose to $1.18 billion in the six months from $1.03 billion in the first half of 2012.
Agriculture Minister Rachid Benaissa has said he expects domestic grain output this year to exceed last year's 5.1 million tonnes.
