'Bayt Dakira' of Essaouira, Confirms 'Moroccan Exception' in Interreligious Dialogue (Lamghrai)

Essaouira - "Bayt Dakira", visited Wednesday by HM King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, in the old medina of Essaouira, confirms the "Moroccan exception" in the field of inter-religious dialogue, said president of the scientific committee of this spiritual and heritage building, Mina Lamghari.

"Bayt Dakira", which is a unique space of its kind in the southern Mediterranean and in the Islamic world, will constitute "a facility that enhances the historical and cultural heritage hosted by the city of Essaouira" and will be the subject of a "call to discover the Moroccan exception" in the areas of dialogue and coexistence between religions, she said in a statement to MAP on this occasion.

Lamghari said that this institution will tell the memory of the city of Essaouira and the history of the Jewish presence in it from the 18th century to today, stressing that the history of the Kingdom includes "beautiful stories of the bringing together and coexistence between Jews and Muslim Moroccans", which "Bayt Dakira" will guarantee to promote.

She stressed in this regard that "Bayt Dakira" will provide historical documents, antiquities and photographs of this "world metropolis of which we are proud as Moroccans", noting that this institution includes an educational space and a museum that tells in images and audiovisual documents the memory of the city and the history of the Jewish presence in it", in addition to a space that houses the International Center for Studies on the history of Judaism and Islam in Morocco and other countries.
