House of Advisors' Speaker Holds Talks in Panama with Speaker of Parlasur

Panama - Speaker of the House of Advisors Hakim Benchamach held talks with speaker of the parliament of the common markets of countries of South America (Parlasur) Daniel Caggiani, on the sidelines of the 12th session of the General Assembly of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino). During these talks, Friday in Panama, Benchamach expressed the House's interest in strengthening ties with the South American and Caribbean region, stressing the importance of institutionalizing relations with the Parlasur. He called for holding a meeting with the components of Parlasur in order to develop an agenda that would serve the interests and aspirations of the peoples of the African and Latin American continents. Benchamach also recalled the creation of the Parliamentary Forum of African, Latin America and Caribbean countries, which took place on November 1 at the headquarters the House of Advisors in Rabat.

For his part, the speaker of Parlasur noted that the strategic location of Morocco in its regional environment helps it play a key role and a link between African and Arab countries and their Latin American counterparts, saying that it is important for the MERCOSUR parliament to double its efforts to establish relations of friendship and cooperation with its African counterparts.

On bilateral relations, Caggiani stressed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting ties of cooperation between the two countries.
