Huppert: Moroccan cinema is becoming more dynamic

"The Marrakech Film Festival gives me the opportunity to further explore the Moroccan cinema through the films included in the program, particularly the feature film competition," said, on Sunday in the red city, the French actress during a meeting with the press.

She added that the special feature of this 7th art event is that it opens the door to experiences that cannot be found elsewhere, she noted, saying that this edition offers the viewers a selection of feature films which is particularly rich in quality, especially art films representing the five continents. Isabelle Huppert said she was "very surprised" by the enthusiasm, the audience's interest and the presence of movie-lovers in Marrakech, a world-famous city where Alfred Hitchcock, Orson Wells, Martin Scorsese and Oliver Stone have shot movies.

For the international superstar it was a good idea to hold a festival in Marrakech and history has repeatedly proven this. In the first edition, Morocco has been producing five feature films annually and after 15 years and thanks to the dynamics of the festival, 25 films are now produced every year.

The Chairwoman of the jury said that she likes to be surprised by unexpected films, believing that cinema is a hope to change the world. The cinema is a "protective shelter" in the eyes of the one who has worked with many international filmmakers.

"I still believe in cinema," she went on. In terms of the mission of the jury, she stressed the need to take into account the vision and different cultural references of each member. On her personal future projects, Isabelle Huppert announced the upcoming release of a feature film where she plays opposite Gérard Depardieu.
