Rabat - Morocco has exported a total of 18.5 million units of micro surgical face masks since May 21, amid a rising global demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The masks were exported by 69 companies to 11 countries in four continents, Moroccan Ministry of Industry and Trade announced on Tuesday in a statement.
Morocco has authorized local suppliers to export masks in woven and non-woven fabric after ensuring self-sufficiency in domestic market and a strategic stock of no less than 50 million masks in the country. And 33.6 percent of the exported masks were directed to France, followed by Portugal with 28.5 percent, and Spain with 14.6 percent, the statement added. Moroccan health ministry on Tuesday reported 135 new infections with COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases in the North African country to 8,437.
