Six-Member Terrorist Cell Operating in Casablanca, Mohammedia and Azilal Dismantled, Interior Ministry

Rabat - The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), under the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), dismantled, on Tuesday on the basis of accurate intelligence information, a terrorist cell composed of six members imbued with extremist thinking, aged 18 to 59, operating in Casablanca, Mohammedia and Azilal, said a statement from the Interior Ministry.

The preliminary investigations reveal that the members of this cell, which is affiliated with the organization called the "Islamic State", planned to commit terrorist acts within the Kingdom with the aim of proclaiming a wilaya affiliated with ISIS, the same source added. The suspects were remanded in police custody for further investigations under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office while efforts are continuing to arrest other accomplices suspected of involvement in this terrorist cell, the statement said. This operation is part of the continuation of efforts to detect terrorist networks that target the security and stability of the Kingdom, the ministry concluded.
