Rabat - The prefectural service of the judicial police of the city of Settat on Sunday brought before the competent prosecutor office a 44-year-old former convict suspected of spreading fake news on social media regarding health facilities in Morocco.
The man has published on his Facebook page pictures of a hospital in a poor state in an Arab country, claiming that the facility is in Morocco, National Police (DGSN) said in a statement.
A judicial investigation was opened into this case and led to the arrest of the suspect, the source said, adding that the man had been placed on custody pending the end of investigations conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office before being brought to justice.
Security services will carry on their surveillance and monitoring operations in order to fight all fake news that mey undermine public efforts aimed at stopping the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, the source pointed out.
